Em seu primeiro discurso durante a 192ª Conferência Geral Semestral, o presidente de A Igreja de Jesus Cristo dos Santos dos Últimos Dias deu início reafirmando veementemente a posição da religião sobre o abuso.

“Ele lamenta, e eu lamento, sempre que alguém é ferido. Ele se entristece, e todos nós nos entristecemos, por cada pessoa que foi vítima de qualquer tipo de abuso. Aqueles que cometem estes atos hediondos, não apenas terão que responder às leis dos homens, mas também enfrentarão a ira de Deus.”
A declaração de Presidente Nelson a respeito do abuso, proferida menos de dois meses após uma reportagem sobre um caso que envolveu a linha de apoio para denúncias de abuso da Igreja, foi ouvida por aproximadamente 21.000 pessoas no Centro de Conferências e milhares que assistiram ao evento online ao redor do mundo.
Presidente Nelson convidou os membros a estudarem os recursos de prevenção ao abuso no site da Igreja e pediu a todos que estejam atentos a quaisquer pessoas que possam estar correndo risco de abuso e ajam prontamente para protegê-las.
“O Salvador não tolerará o abuso e, como Seus discípulos, nós também não podemos tolerá-lo”, disse ele.
Presidente Dallin H. Oaks, primeiro conselheiro na Primeira Presidência, enfatizou novamente a missão da Igreja de trabalhar com outras organizações de caridade para fornecer ajuda humanitária a pessoas que sofrem no mundo todo.
“A Igreja de Jesus Cristo está comprometida em servir aos necessitados e também em cooperar com outras pessoas nesse esforço”, disse ele.
Élder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, membro do Quórum de Doze Apóstolos, introduziu uma versão recém-revisada do livreto “Para o Vigor da Juventude: Um Guia para Fazer Escolhas”, destinado a direcionar rapazes e moças a Cristo. O novo livreto é baseado em valores, princípios e doutrina, em vez de comportamentos específicos.
“Para deixar bem claro, o melhor guia que vocês podem ter para fazer escolhas é Jesus Cristo”, disse Élder Uchtdorf. “Jesus Cristo é o vigor da juventude.”
Élder Ronald A. Rasband pediu aos membros que seguissem o conselho profético de inundar a Terra com o Livro de Mórmon, escritura sagrada que agora pode ser facilmente compartilhada pelo aplicativo Biblioteca do Evangelho.
Outro apóstolo, Élder Dale G. Renlund, ensinou sobre a necessidade de entendermos a estrutura dentro da qual o Espírito Santo opera para fornecer revelação pessoal.
Depois de descrever seus problemas de visão, a irmã Tracy Y. Browning, segunda conselheira na presidência geral da Primária, encorajou os santos dos últimos dias a melhorarem sua visão espiritual e permitirem que o Salvador seja uma bússola e um piloto à medida que navegam pela vida.
Os costumes e as tradições podem variar de país para país, mas as coisas “normais” da vida, incluindo o estudo das escrituras, a oração, a frequência à Igreja, e a história da família e o trabalho do templo, devem manter os membros prosseguindo no caminho do convênio, disse Élder Rafael E. Pino, Setenta Autoridade Geral.
Élder Hugo Montoya, que também serve como Setenta Autoridade Geral, exortou os santos dos últimos dias a demonstrarem o princípio eterno do amor ao viverem os dois grandes mandamentos: amar a Deus e amar ao próximo.
O Coro do Tabernáculo na Praça do Templo apresentou a música durante a sessão da manhã de sábado da conferência geral. A música foi regida por Mack Wilberg e Ryan Murphy, com Brian Mathias e Richard Elliott ao órgão.
A sessão foi dirigida por Presidente Henry B. Eyring, segundo conselheiro na Primeira Presidência. As orações foram oferecidas por Élder David P. Homer e Élder Taylor G. Godoy, ambos Setentas Autoridades Gerais.
