Duas outras pessoas morreram dentro do edifício que foi incendiado durante um tiroteio em uma capela de A Igreja de Jesus Cristo dos Santos dos Últimos Dias em Grand Blanc, Michigan, na manhã de domingo, 28 de setembro.
A informação foi fornecida pelo Chefe de Polícia de Grand Blanc Township, William Renye, durante uma coletiva de imprensa às 18h [horário local].
De acordo com Reuben Coleman, agente especial interino responsável pelo escritório de campo do FBI em Detroit, o ataque foi “um ato de violência direcionada”.
Renye disse que o edifício inteiro ainda não foi inspecionado e que ainda há indivíduos que não foram contabilizados. Outras duas pessoas morreram devido a ferimentos no tiroteio, conforme relatado anteriormente. Além das quatro vítimas, o atirador também foi morto.
Sete vítimas feridas pelos tiros se encontram em condição estável, e uma está em estado crítico, disse Renye em uma breve entrevista coletiva às 15h [horário local] mas não respondeu a qualquer pergunta.
A polícia disse que o suspeito, identificado como Thomas Jacob Sanford, de 40 anos, de Burton, Michigan, dirigiu seu veículo através das portas da frente da capela onde centenas de pessoas estavam reunidas para os serviços. Segundo a polícia, o suspeito saiu do veículo e começou a atirar. Acredita-se que o incêndio que tomou conta do edifício tenha sido deliberadamente provocado pelo suspeito.
O suspeito foi morto no estacionamento após trocar tiros com policiais que responderam rapidamente ao local, disse Renye.
“Uma chamada foi registrada às 10h25 e 32 segundos”, disse Renye. “Tínhamos policiais no local às 10h25 e 57 segundos.” A polícia disse que acredita que “encontrará outras vítimas, assim que tivermos a cena segura.”
Outra coletiva de imprensa será realizada às 18h [horário de Utah].
A polícia também acredita que “encontrará outras vítimas assim que tivermos o local seguro.”
“Houve um grande incêndio e acreditamos que havia pessoas lá que estavam perto desse incêndio, e elas não conseguiram sair da igreja”, disse Renye.
